English

My mothertongue is dutch, I like to write, and to read but my dutch is pretty bad, grammarwise. (dutch grammar is quite complicated, with different tenses in the verbs and with loads of different rules; and expceptions to the rules)
English is my second language, and I try very hard not to make any mistakes. Sometimes I make myself laugh with a mistake that I made writing for this blog. Usually I notice the next day, or I don't notice at all. I'm very sorry for all english readers: Im not stupid or retarted, It's just not my first language. But at least it's not permanent! I stole this blogpost from Nrc.Next

Hornbill

This bird, a hornbill, turned out a little scary and weird, and again, my drawing is too big. But it so nice to take a very big piece op paper (this one is a2). Loads of space to draw and size-wise there are allmost no restrictions.

Friendly

Today I went around town to buy my friend Fay a birthday present. I ended up talking to a woman who's has a nice story full of handmade gifts. She gave me this key-hanger, and the car looks just like my car! Really it does, only the lights are a little different. It is time fot its annual M.O.T, hopefully i can drive around again tomorrow, with this keyhanger. (that also smells of lavender: very good against my road-rage.....)

in need of an A3 scanner

My scanner is too small, or my drawings are too big...

Thrift store

For me is every Thrift store is a place to go treasure hunting. Old magazines are my favorite, old books about sport or animals come in second. Yesterday i found a few really nice books and magazines. And the kind guy behind the counter made me a nice price. But when I came back to my car I also found a parkingticket on my window, with not such a nice price on it....

New Years

It's way too late, I know. I designed this postcard months ago. Its the card the newspaper deliveryboys hand out to the readers. But my newspaper-boy never gave me the card, wich was a shame for me cause I never got to see it (untill now) and also a shame for him, because i wanted to give him 10 euro's. That's what you do if you are thankful for the newspaper, every day. Coffee, sandwich, newspaper. Take one of those elements away from me, bad start of the day!

Boekje

Chemical Optimism

A few years ago I found a rather disturbing writingpad of a woman-traveller, passing by Amsterdam. She was struggling with life a bit and she was taking a lot of chemical substances. They probably helped her enjoy but also made her loose track about wich way to go. She was very aware that a lot of the things she felt had to do with the drugs she was taking. Her lines, and words inspired me to this illustration.

I hope she's allright, I think she is, she was problably young, just experiencing a lot and thinking about things.

Daily newspaper cut out session

Cutting my old newspaper up into something new, at first it was just something to occupy my time. But my boss liked the idea and it the Daily-newspaper-cut-out-sessions got a daily spot in our newspaper. My co-workers, my boss and our readers, we all make one once in a while. Nice, how something that you like doing, becomes something you can share with many people.

Ook een Marieke/ We share our name

http://www.treatsandtreasures.com/

We have this saying in the Netherlands: I turned green from jealousy. Thats how much i like her blog. (and she has about 200 visitors a day....)

Oud gedicht

My Mom

This is my mom, she was very young at the time, I love her outfit, the little purse. What a lady. And she wears exactly the sort of clothing that I use in my illustrations all the time. Great!

Kaartje

Tonight I found this card. It's very similar in structure and colours as the card that I up-loaded this morning. The other one came all the way from Indonesia though, and this one came from a just few streets away.

Kaartjes

(orang betekend mens in Bahasa Indonesia).
